Gimbal orientation

Hood Tech Vision provides two types of stabilized camera orientations to offer maximum flexibility in configurations and enhanced capability to our customers and their ISR requirements.

Pan over tilt »

The typical configuration provided by most gimbal manufacturers. With this configuration the gimbal hangs down from the platform, pans back and forth horizontally and tilts vertically to acquire and stabilize on a target. The system integrates well on most aircraft for general observation. The pan over tilt ball is best suited to vertical mounts on different aircraft with typical forward and off the wing observation requirements.

Roll over tilt »

This unique configuration provides a mechanical layout that can be advantageous.  In this layout, the turret’s first stage rolls about the flight axis and the second stage moves fore and aft.   From the ground, operating a roll over tilt turret is identical to operating a pan over tilt turret.  The difference between the two lies in that the roll over tilt configuration reduces the frontal area for a given sized payload and sometimes allows a tighter integration with the aircraft.

Hood Tech Vision offers the Alticam series of small and tactical size payloads to fit both of these categories, each ideally suited to fill a separate niche of ISR activity.

4-Axis Stabilization

Hood Tech Vision products are known for the excellent stability they provide, producing rock-solid, easily-viewable imagery even during heavy platform oscillations.

Achieving this level of stability in extremely light gimbals has not been easy. Using an early background in vibration analysis obtained through the development of the first of Hood Technology's products (Blade Vibration Analysis) as a basis, Hood Tech Vision has spent years with top mechanical engineering talent working closely with UAV manufacturers to understand and overcome the unique conditions of aircraft vibration profiles. Hood Tech Vision has achieved this by developing proprietary stabilization technology using a 4-axis inertial based system, advanced control algorithms and further enhanced the solution with leading edge video processing. All of this together yields stabilization results that makes the Alticam system easy to adapt to your platform and provide excellent stable imagery for mission success.
